A statement from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists board of directors:
Political incitement and violence against journalists is increasing around the world and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists adds its voice to demand that it stop.
ICIJ applauds the countless reporters who have risked their health and safety to report on the Black Lives Matter protests and on the global health pandemic. When journalists at work are attacked and detained, the consequences are clear: democracy, justice and accountability are imperiled.
Violence against journalists is a crime against society and must not only be condemned but consistently investigated and resolved.
ICIJ’s collaborative model was designed to bring journalists — of all races, ages, nationalities, ethnicities — together to hold the powerful accountable and inform the public.
ICIJ stands with journalists everywhere in opposition to those who would curtail freedom of expression and the rights of all.
