Ali Zalat, Egypt, is deputy investigations editor at the Cairo-based independent newspaper, Almasry Alyoum.
He also produces the investigative talk show, Lazem Nefham, on Egyptian TV.
Zalat has investigated organized crime and wrote the first investigative report in Egypt about international gangs smuggling African migrants from Egypt into Israel. He published several reports on the torture of Egyptian citizens by police and investigated the illegal organ trade in Egypt. Since the Egyptian revolution, he has tracked the finances of Hosni Mubarak and businessmen close to the former president.
Zalat has received numerous awards for his work, including the Arabian Journalism Prize from the Dubai Club for Journalism and second prize for best investigative report on human rights by the United Nations Development Program and the Al Ahram International Institute for Journalism.
