Ben Hallman was a senior editor for ICIJ from 2018 until December 2022.
Previously, he was deputy editor at The Trace and an investigations editor and reporter at HuffPost. He has also worked at the Center for Public Integrity, the American Lawyer magazine and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In recent years, he investigated fraud and abuse in the home foreclosure and hospice industries, and displacement financed by World Bank loans.
As an editor, he has overseen award-winning examinations of college athletic financing and the National Rifle Association's influence on state government in the United States. He has collaborated with journalists from dozens of news organizations.
Hallman's awards include the 2016 Gold Keyboard Award from the New York Press Club, the 2015 Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism prize from the Online News Association, the 2015 Education Writers of America award for data journalism and the 2014 Barlett-Steele bronze prize for investigative reporting.
