Joan Baxter, Canada, is an award-winning journalist and author of seven books.

For more than a decade, she was a correspondent for the BBC World Service in West Africa, and in her four-decade career, she has contributed to many international and Canadian media, among them Le Monde Diplomatique, The Guardian, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Al Jazeera, Reuters, the Associated Press, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Halifax Examiner, The Energy Mix, The Narwhal and the National Observer.

Baxter holds a master’s degree in anthropology, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
