Paola Hurtado, Guatemala, is a freelance journalist, writer and professor of journalism.
Hurtado was deputy news manager at Canal Antigua and host of the television news program “A las 8:45”.
She was chief editor at the weekly ContraPoder, and head of the investigative reporting team at elPeriódico in Guatemala City.
Hurtado started as a national reporter for the daily edition of elPeriódico, then moved to the Sunday edition where she covered social issues. With her team of investigative reporters, she has produced stories on political, economic and social matters. She represented Guatemala in Spain in the Balboa Scholarship Program for Latin American journalists, which placed her as a television news reporter for the Spanish agency EFE, in Madrid.
She has written for television programs and collaborated with American broadcast news programs. She has won several awards including the Irma Flaquer Prize from the United Nations Development Program and the UNICEF Communication Award in 2003.
