Ali Amar, Morocco, is a veteran journalist who is the co-founder and current Director of Publication of the online news and investigative outlet, Le Desk.
Prior to launching his journalistic career in the mid-‘90s, Amar worked in the banking sector for five years.
In 1997, he co-founded Le Journal, a newsmagazine that would become the flagship print outlet of the new independent press in Morocco until its court-mandated shutdown in 2010. Le Journal faced an impressive number of court cases throughout its lifetime due to its non-complacent tone towards the regime.
Following the closing down of the outlet and foreclosure of the company, Amar left the country to live in Europe as a guest writer of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN). He returned to Morocco in 2015 to launch Le Desk with his wife, Fatima Zahra Lqadiri.
Amar has published the bestselling book, "Mohammed VI: The Great Misunderstanding" (Calmann-Lévy, 2009).
