Andrea Cardenas Novoa, Mexico, is a freelance investigative journalist. She joined Quinto Elemento Lab from 2018 to 2022 as a reporter, and now trains journalists in the investigative method and coordinates the creation of investigative units in Mexican media.
Previously, she worked at a newspaper based in Guadalajara, as a journalist in their investigative unit.
Cardenas Novoa has participated in many cross-border investigations led by ICIJ, including the Implant Files, FinCEN Files and Pandora Papers. She reported on the corruption case of Odebrecht, the Brazilian company that paid millions in bribes to obtain contracts from state-owned companies in Latin America, and was part of the team led by OCCRP that investigated the Riviera Maya gang, one of the world's biggest criminal skimming groups that controlled more than 100 ATMs in Mexico's biggest tourism hotspots.
She is a 2016 graduate of the program Prende for journalists at the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico City, where she specialized in investigative reporting.
