Axcel Chenney, Mauritius, is a trusted and respected investigative journalist in Mauritius.

He has been an audiovisual journalist since 2002. Previously, the head of multimedia of the news website lexpress.mu, the web version of one of the country’s major newspapers, L'express, he is now a freelancer.

Chenney holds a master’s degree in media management awarded jointly by the prestigious Ecole Supérieure de Journalisme and Lille I University.

In 2011, he led a team of undercover radio journalists probing the controversial issue of civil service recruitment. The story led to a public apology by a member of parliament.

In 2013, he directed and presented a series of award-winning documentaries on the Criminal Archives of Mauritius. He was awarded the CNN-Multichoice African Journalist of the Year (French Digital) in 2013 for one of these documentaries.

From 2016-2019, he directed and presented a record-breaking investigation on the L’express YouTube channel. "Liar Liar" depicts politicians’ lies through documented investigation and revelation.

In 2017, he carried out a money-laundering investigation, "The BET365 affair", leading to the resignation of the Mauritian Minister of Justice.

In 2019, he worked on the Mauritius Leaks with ICIJ.

Besides his investigative pieces, Chenney is also a radio and TV trainer of traditional, print L’express journalists, and delivers regular lectures on media management and journalism ethics in Mauritius and Madagascar.
