Carlos Fernando Chamorro, Nicaragua, is a journalist, founder and director of Confidencial and the television programs “Esta Semana” and “Esta Noche” since 1996.
Confidencial combines investigative journalism and analyses of current affairs. US magazine The Nation called it “the most respected muckraking operation in the country”. His newsroom was confiscated and occupied twice by the police without a court order, in December 2018 and in May 2021.
Since June 2021, he has been in exile in Costa Rica, from where he runs Confidencial to overcome press censorship in Nicaragua.
In 2010, he received the María Moors Cabot Award from the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York. In 2021, he received the Ortega y Gasset Award from El País in Spain. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Gabo Foundation.
