Jennifer Alejandra Avila Reyes, Honduras, is the founding editor-in-chief of Contracorriente, a digital media outlet in Honduras that publishes deeply reported investigative pieces.
She has directed nine documentaries on themes including gender, environment defenders, indigenous peoples and youth violence. Across various formats, she has covered the subjects of national resource exploitation and development, human rights and political conflict. She has freelanced for digital media outlets in Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Argentina, Peru and the United States.
She received the Latin American Studies Association Media Award in 2020 and the Gabo Recognition of Excellence Award in 2023. Under her leadership, Contracorriente received a special citation from the Maria Moors Cabot Prize Board in 2021.
