Marites Dañguilan Vitug, Philippines, is a co-founder and board member of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism.
She works for Newsweek and World Paper in the Philippines and has contributed to The Christian Science Monitor, Newsday, and The Manila Times. Vitug has reported and written extensively on environmental issues and has been threatened with imprisonment for her investigations into illegal logging operations. Her investigations led to the 1993 book Power from the Forest: The Politics of Logging. She was a 1987 Nieman fellow at Harvard University and received a 1998-99 grant from the MacArthur Foundation to write a book on conflict and development in Muslim Mindanao titled Under the Crescent Moon: Rebellion in Mindanao.
