Mokhtar al-Ibrahim, Syria, is the editor at Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ).
He worked on ICIJ's Paradise Papers investigation.
al-Ibrahim began working as an investigative reporter six years ago when he joined ARIJ. Prior to this, he was not fully familiar with the international rules for conducting investigations. Since then, he has completed several investigations and received two awards.
The first award he won was for a story about Syrian war refugees, who were expropriated from their homes. This investigation put in motion the successful change in buying and selling real-estate laws in the country.
His second investigation, titled, ‘Fatherless Children in Syria’, which centred around the difficulties widowed new mothers faced trying to register their children in the eyes of the law, was also able to aid in changing Syrian law, to enable fatherless children to be legally registered by their mothers.
Now, al-Ibrahim is a part of the ARIJ hub in Amman.
